Man, been a couple months since I've been posting...but with my timely retirment from 24hr racing at the Coolest, I've been "let's just ride and smile" mode. At least I try to be,
My tailspins, well, not really a direct tailspin, more like a stupidity induced injury that resulted in a heavy hopps and barley sedation over the last six weeks. Two weeks before Creampuff I pulled the classic ride a wheelie maneuver that ends with a trip to emergency and a diagnosed compression fracture in L1.
Not fun to say the least, but only myself to point the finger at. Continuing my path of stupidity, I still did the Creampuff two weeks later, but at least found enough sense to bring my geared bike rather than my SS. I finished 42 and and enjoyed the whole course and trip. First time I ever really stopped and chatted at the aid stations. What a spread! Need to do that more often!
Now here we are in late July and I'm trying to stop the tailspin and level out the old body into something resembling a loosly used term "fitness."
After two weeks of panting like a dying dog and being board stiff every ride, today I finally had a ride where I at least felt somewhat normal (i.e. no backpain)....hooray! Unfortunately, the guys I rode with today, we had a combined 5 flats and I finished the last four miles taking a short cut and riding my flat back to my buddy Todds.
SierraTahoe is in a month and I'd like to keep the "fun" factor high....talked to Northey tonight and will hopefully do the second 50 of the course this weekend. This race will be a hard race, the course will be mostly if not all fireroads and dust, but it's gonna put the hurt on people by the end of the day. Should be a good time.
I'll post a bit about the course next week.
